Since 1991 we have cared for thou­sands of trees along major road­ways and inter­states in the Baton Rouge area via coop­er­a­tive agree­ments with the Louisiana Depart­ment of Trans­porta­tion and Devel­op­ment and the East Baton Rouge Parish Depart­ment of Pub­lic Works.

Urban trees require mon­i­tor­ing and care. Our trees reg­u­lar­ly need prun­ing, weed pre­ven­tion, fer­til­iz­ing, mulching, and irri­ga­tion to suc­cess­ful­ly mature in chal­leng­ing envi­ron­ments. Main­tain­ing over 4,000 trees takes resources. Baton Rouge Green receives no pub­lic funds to main­tain these trees. Local cit­i­zens, busi­ness­es and indus­try pro­vide the funds for 100% of this program.

Liv­ing Road­ways rep­re­sents the best of our com­mu­ni­ty – a pri­vate­ly sup­port­ed effort which improves the pub­lic spaces we expe­ri­ence each and every day.
