BR Public Tree Inventory
Baton Rouge Green staff is digitally cataloging public trees in the city in order to better quantify their environmental and economic benefits to our community, as well as assist city officials with maintenance and planning. As of September 2026, over 100,000 trees have been measured and mapped!
Data from this inventory can be put to use in innumerable ways and has produced fascinating results, especially when run through iTree, the U.S. Forest Service’s cloud-based, peer-reviewed platform, to learn more about the canopy’s effects on carbon, air pollution and stormwater runoff.
