Since 2014 Baton Rouge Green has partnered with the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and organized the City Citrus Pick Event each winter. At-home Citrus Shepherds who have well-established trees producing more fruit than they can consume can register their trees online to be harvested, and Baton Rouge Green mobilizes and equips volunteer pickers to collect the fruit which is then donated to the Food Bank. The fresh fruit, grown and harvested entirely by volunteers, is then distributed throughout the Food Bank network to families in need.
The 2022 PICK EVENT set a new record harvest! In just a few hours 150 volunteers harvested 6,122 lbs. of fresh citrus for families in need!
Thanks to all who participated!
