College Drive at I-10 Living Roadways Site Gets Upgrades
June 25, 2018
This spring Baton Rouge Green installed 2,500 additional native shrubs and grasses at our Living Roadways site at College Drive and I-10. The additional wax myrtles, muhly grasses and common rush will fill out these beds beautifully as they establish. The trees first planted in 2015/2016 are really coming into their own and growing rapidly! The College Drive site was made possible by our friends at Turner Industries.
Turner first approached Baton Rouge Green about the endeavor in 2013. After several rounds of design and modifications working with both Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) and East Baton Rouge City-Parish Department of Public Works (DPW), the final design was permitted to proceed in 2015. The project began with an initial bed construction and planting from winter 2015 to spring 2016. Baton Rouge Green’s Director of Operations, Robert Seemann, ISA, a certified arborist with a Masters’ in Landscape Architecture, is responsible for the native plant palate and has also overseen the entire process, including the recent additions.
Baton Rouge Green is incredibly grateful for Turner’s commitment and generous support of this project. We hope Baton Rouge citizens enjoying this lovely green space on their commute will remember Turner’s gift!
Thanks also to Raising Cane’s who is a site sponsor as well!
