Baton Rouge Green in a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded in 1987 to lead and inspire the planting and sustaining of community trees and green spaces.

Baton Rouge Green is hiring an Urban Tree Technician to help inventory and manage trees in public spaces and right-of-way.

Each applicant’s relevant background, education, and experience(s) will be considered. Additional on-the-job training will be provided by Baton Rouge Green. A background in data collection, arboriculture, dendrology, or the ecological sciences is ideal.

Specific tasks will include identifying and physically measuring trees, collecting and inputting data, and working with GIS technologies including ArcGIS.

Other duties may include tree pruning from the ground, light debris removal, weed management, and utilizing work-tracking and reporting systems to communicate dynamically on these activities. This position requires a commitment to field work; it also requires a relatively high level of autonomy, professionalism, and responsibility. Candidate must also have the ability to help develop and adhere to reporting and documentation programs.

Practical and/or academic background in one or more of the following disciplines:

• Forestry (Traditional or Urban)

• Ecological sciences

• Horticulture

• Arboriculture

• Landscape management

• GIS experience a plus

• Other related fields

Must be willing to learn or demonstrate proficiency with mobile electronic devices GIS software for data collection in the field (on the job training provided).

• Willing and able to learn new skillsets

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid Driver’s License
• U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status
• Able to lift and carry 45 lbs.
• Able to use hand tools and power tools (mandatory training will be provided).
• Must adhere to workplace safety standards and BMPs
• Able to work 4-6 Saturdays each year
• Able to provide support services for special events
