Trees 101...Plant Smart

Baton Rouge Green works with interested neighborhoods each year for short workshops that offer tips about selecting, planting, and maintaining trees. Each workshop lasts a couple of hours and is typically held on a Saturday morning.
Information on selecting, planting, and caring for trees can also be found in the Plant Smart section of our website.

In fall 2009, Baton Rouge Green worked with Shadows Homeowners' Association, a large neighborhood located off of S. Harrels Ferry Road and with the Southside Civic Association (Southdowns Neighborhood).
In August of 2010, Baton Rouge Green worked with the Garden District Civic Association, supplementing the civic group's summer party with a Trees 101 seminar. Baton Rouge Green demonstrated proper pruning techniques on some of the nearby trees as interested citizens followed along.
Baton Rouge Green then hosted a volunteer event later during the Fall. One whole block of Park Boulevard's live oak trees were mulched thanks to the help of Garden District residents and a couple of other volunteers.
Homeowners are encouraged to contact the Baton Rouge Green office to have their own planting photos shared on this section of the website (call Suzannah at 225-381-0037).
This program is funded in part by a grant from the Greater Baton Rouge Association of Realtors. Baton Rouge Green is currently seeking additional funding for Trees 101 programming.
