Tree Planting Guide
In 2001, Baton Rouge Green joined Southern University for a collaborative project: The Baton Rouge Native Tree Planting Guide.
The guide includes information on selecting the best trees to plant within the five ecological districts found in the Baton Rouge area: backswamp, bottomland, terrace escarpment, terrace plain and bluffland.
The guide features a map to assist you in identifying your ecological district and includes additional information regarding:
- Tree identification (by common and scientific name)
- Selecting your tree
- Selecting your planting location
- Proper planting technique
- Maintaining your tree (inspection, mulching, fertilization, pruning)
